CDB 56th Annual Meeting, Nassau
Shaping the future of development T he future of international development in an increasingly uncertain global environment was at the center of discussions during the 56th Annual Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank in Nassau, the Bahamas, in early June. President Abdulhamid Alkhalifa participated in high- level discussions, bilateral meetings and media engagements. A key highlight was the “President’s Chat,” which brought together the heads of CDB, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the OPEC Fund - Daniel Best, Gisela Sanchez and Abdulhamid Alkhalifa – for a discussion on “MDB Strategies for Uncertain Times.” Reflecting on the OPEC Fund’s Golden Jubilee year, President Alkhalifa emphasized the unique role of multilateral development institutions in supporting long-term development. He noted: “MDBs must be prudent and proactive as they are uniquely positioned to provide long-term stable financing, enduring partnerships and the ability to stay engaged through economic cycles.”

T he Harmonized Indicators for Private Sector Operations (HIPSO) Annual Meeting, hosted at the OPEC Fund in Vienna in May, underscored a simple but important idea: Development impact deepens when institutions learn from each other. Gathering more than 50 practitioners from global and regional development finance institutions (DFIs),
growing importance of practical and credible approaches to measuring development impact, particularly as DFIs continue scaling up operations in increasingly complex environments. Building on HIPSO’s role as a platform for collaboration, the meeting emphasized the value of exchanging experience on impact management systems, market effects and innovative evaluation techniques. Participants included ADB, AfDB, BII, BOAD, CAF, DEG, DFC, EBRD, FMO, IDB Invest, IFC, OeEB, PIDG, Proparco and others. They explored how to deepen rigor in measurement, while aligning
approaches to common challenges such as job creation metrics, impact reporting and analytics. The goal: a stronger collective understanding of trends and more coordinated action through HIPSO workstreams.
