In 50 years of existence the OPEC Fund has become a globally active, recognized and respected development finance institution. Established in 1976 with the distinct
worldwide network financing projects and programs to promote sustainable development. Born in the spirit of solidarity, the OPEC Fund is fueled by the commitment to fight poverty, provide access to affordable and clean energy, deliver sustainable infrastructure, secure food supplies, bolster economic resilience and finance climate action
that works. This mandate is delivered through the provision of loans, equity, quasi-equity, guarantees, risk-sharing instruments and grants to partners in the public and private sectors. As a standalone feature the OPEC Fund is the only globally mandated development institution that provides financing from member countries to non-member countries exclusively.
