In addition, the OPEC Fund has provided almost US$167 million in grants for food security, which constitutes more than a quarter (26 percent) of its total grant resources com- mitted to date. Of these grant resources, most (88 percent) were grouped under the sector of agriculture, such as for the provision of technical assistance and helping countries access agricultural commodities. Within agriculture, 12 per- cent of the food security grant resources corresponded to a special grant for the establishment of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Apart from support to agriculture, the OPEC Fund also provided grants as emergency aid for food crises in African partner countries (12 percent of food security grant resources).
