CHAPTER 3
MDBs provide some form of support to alleviate crisis relat- ed pressures, mostly in the form of financing but also analy- sis and knowledge resources (such as the World Bank). The Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) “State of the World” series of reports provide a global snapshot of top- ics associated with food and agriculture. For food security, “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World” re- port provides an in-depth, year-by-year look at the number of undernourished people around the world, while advocat- ing for strategies against hunger and malnutrition.
Meanwhile, the Food Security Information Network (FSIN) is a global technical platform for the exchange of expertise, knowledge and best practices on food security and nutri- tion analysis. FSIN is funded by the European Union and it produces a flagship report: the Global Report on Food Crises 2023 (with a mid-year update). Furthermore, the Global Alliance for Food Security (GAFS) was launched in May 2022 by the Group of Seven (G7) development ministers as a way to address the emerging global food security and nutrition crisis. GAFS produces a Global Food and Nutrition Security dashboard, which provides information on the global food situation, devel- opment of the food security crisis, the areas where action is needed, and tracking the financing provided by donors to respond to the crisis.
