JUNE

The inaugural OPEC Fund Development Forum in Vienna attracted more than 250 high-level participants from member and partner countries, international development organizations and businesses. Under the theme “Driving Resilience and Equity” speakers discussed how to move from aspiration to action when addressing the twin challenges of energy access and climate change.

OCTOBER

For the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group took place again in person in Washington, DC and Director-General Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa used the opportunity to re-connect with existing partners and reach out to new contacts. In addition to project signings, highlights included discussions on how to deepen development impact.

NOVEMBER

Demonstrating its commitment to climate action the OPEC Fund participated in the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, unveiling a new financing facility with partners in the Arab Coordination Group and launching its Climate Finance and Energy Innovation Hub. The OPEC Fund pavilion provided a busy events stage for numerous discussion panels and a platform to establish contacts.
