The OPEC Fund hosted a high-level event at its Headquarters in Vienna, Austria on “Unlocking Finance for Clean Cooking.” Organized together with the UN-affiliated organization Sustainable Energy for All the forum brought together policy-makers, representatives of partner countries, institutions and the private sector as well as experts. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding both organizations took another step to scale-up their support of global and national efforts towards universal access to clean cooking.

Led by Director-General Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa a delegation of the OPEC Fund participated in the 2022 Sustainable Energy for All Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. This landmark annual global gathering brought together nearly one thousand stakeholders working on ending energy poverty and advancing a just energy transition. The OPEC Fund also signed a bilateral US$18 million loan to the government of Rwanda for the Nyacyonga-Mukoto road project, connecting two major national roads and promoting trade and business.

THE OPEC FUND IN ITS HOST CITY VIENNA

The OPEC Fund sponsored the Vienna City Marathon for the 12th time in April and for the first time also supported a rookie team of four young runners from Ethiopia and Kenya for their first break at the international stage.

In support of disadvantaged individuals and families with children in urgent need in Austria the OPEC Fund made a ¤20,000 contribution to the charity platform “Licht ins Dunkel” (“A Light in the Dark”) in December.

The finalization of the roof of the building on Parkring 6 marked another mile- stone in the successful reconstruction of the adjacent building to the OPEC Fund’s current Headquarters. Progress was also made with the full integration of the two buildings, which are being combined to become the OPEC Fund’s new Headquarters.
