We are excited to support the govern- ment’s program as it provides clear guidance for the further development of Botswana’s economy. This prudent and transparent approach will go a long way to re-energizing the economy and mobilizing local and international investors. With this we expect Botswana not only to overcome the impact of the pandemic but also to set out on a path of long-term growth.

When complete, this policy assistance will help the government to promote a resilient, low-carbon economy and better respond to multiple shocks — all while strengthening the private sector. This operation is fully aligned with the World Bank Group’s Country Partnership Framework, which takes a green, resilient and inclusive approach to development. We are confident that this operation will put Botswana firmly on the path to green growth and sustainable development.

We are grateful to the OPEC Fund and the World Bank for their continued support towards the realization of crucial economic and social reforms —not only to minimize the impact of future pandemics but also to help Botswana achieve struc- tural transformations on our desired green growth trajectory.
