OPEC Fund Annual Report 2023

03 | THE RESULTS – DELIVERY BY SECTORS

MOURAD BOUAOUINA OPEC Fund Senior Planning and Coordination Officer

The OPEC Fund is proud to be part of this vital project, as it will sustainably secure an essential commodity for a mostly desert population. We are equally proud of its high development impact as it supports activities under Sustainable Development Goal 6 - Clean Water, in ad- dition to contributing to five other SDGs including SDG3 - Good Health, SDG1 – End Poverty and SDG 13 - Climate Action. The completion of this drinking water supply project will undoubtedly have knock-on effects for the sustainable de- velopment of other production activities in the area, particularly in agriculture, livestock, health, education, housing and the environment. The implementation will allow a reduction in poverty, a settlement of the population, a return to the land, and a reduction in unemployment.

The main objective of this project is to ensure the improvement of the drinking water supply conditions of the town of Kiffa by meeting the water needs of the population in quantity and quality; by guaranteeing the sustainability of water resources and the continuity of the drink- ing water supply; and by reducing the bur- den of fetching water and related costs, particularly in the summer period. Thus, the project will help improve the living conditions of residents and the hygienic conditions of the population by reducing water-borne diseases.
