Chapter 6 | PROJECTS
OPEC Fund financing directly supports the implementa- tion of climate adaptation measures across all compo- nents of the project. The financed activities include:
“With the INNOVASAN project, the country will be able to make substantial progress in fulfilling its climate change adaptation commitments under its NDCs for the agri-food sector. This will be achieved through human capacity building, prevention and response actions for extreme events — with an emphasis on drought and flooding — as well as through innovation, research and the adoption of climate-smart agricul- tural technologies, ultimately benefiting more than 50,000 people in north-central Honduras.”
• Formulation and implementation of business plans in value chains that are nutrition-sensitive, inclusive (youth and gender) and resilient to climate change.
• Investments to enhance the resilience of households and producer organizations to droughts and floods, including improvements in water security and disaster risk reduction. • Micro-watershed management and green infra- structure to reduce the vulnerability of agroforestry ecosystems and enhance water resilience through nature-based solutions. • Strengthening rural population capacities in climate adaptation and disaster risk management, including early warning systems, training in climate-resilient agricultural practices (e.g. drought-tolerant crops, water-efficient irrigation methods) and ecosystem restoration. Given that the project’s overall objective is aligned with climate adaptation and that all components contribute directly to reducing climate vulnerability, 100 percent of the OPEC Fund’s US$15 million financing for INNOVASAN is considered adaptation finance.
