DAGMAWI SELASSIE Representative and Country Director, Rwanda, International
Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
“Following the success of the first Rwanda Dairy Development Project, launched in 2016, and the government’s positive assessment, a second phase came onstream in March 2024. The over- arching goals remain the same: Improve the productivity and processing capacity of Rwanda’s dairy industry, while strengthening policy and institutional frameworks. On the ground, the project aims at improving the food security, livelihoods and resilience of smallholder farmers. Co-financed by IFAD and the OPEC Fund, this second phase builds on the lessons learned from the first. Now replicated at national level, it also brings major innovations such as climate financing mechanisms and digitalization of the value chain.”
